Leonard F. Petrucelli was born October 16, 1920 in Rye to John and Mary Inglese Petrucelli. Lenny attended Rye schools and was one of a family of nine children. In Rye his family lived at 224 Central Ave. His family were parishiones of the Church of the Resurrection.

Lenny graduated from Rye High School in 1939; attended the University of Nebraska and Franklin Institute, Boston. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Lenny served from 1943 to 1945 as a sergeant in the glider infantry in the Pacific, participating in the invasions of New Guinea and the Philippines.

“Sgt Petrucelli who graduated in 1939 from Rye High School where he played football and baseball was employed by General Motor Corp. New York before entering service. He has returned after two years in the Pacific theater. He holds the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign ribbon ,two battle stars, the Good Conduct Medal and wears the glider wings“

In 1946, he was employed by General Motors of New York where he worked for thirty-two years in its overseas operating division. Lenny also worked for many years at The Apawamis Club in Rye as a golf starter and tournament score-keeper.

In addition to scoring local events he did free-lance scoring at many PGA, MGA, and LPGA events including the Masters in Atlanta, GA.

Leonard Francis Petrucelli, a lifelong Rye resident, died at Greenwich Hospital on Thursday, December 21, 2006, of complications from pneumonia.

At the time of his death, he was predeceased by his wife, Lee Rubino Petrucelli. He was survived by his children, Leonard Petrucelli of Shelton, CT; Richard Petrucelli of Mohegan Lake, NY; John Petrucelli of Port Chester, NY; Andy Petrucelli of Port Chester, NY; Marilee Brisbane of Kensington, MD and nine grandchildren. He was also survived by his sister, Helen Cardone of Greenwich, CT

A devoted father, Leonard Petrucelli will be missed by all.

A funeral mass in celebration of Lenny’s life was held December 27, 2006 at Resurrection Church, Rye. Internment at Greenwood Union Cemetery.
