Richard AR Pinkham was born in New York City on April 11, 1914, to Edward and Betty Rai Pinkham. He graduated from the Choate School in Wallingford, CT, and later served on the board of trustees. He was a member of Yale University’s class of 1936 and later was a member of the University Council of Yale. In Rye his family lived on Milton Road and were members of Christ’s Church.

Richard started his career with Time magazine in 1935 and worked as circulation director and a member of the board of directors for The New York Herald Tribune.

Richard served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. In April 1941, he married Marry Bunnie” Strothers in Rye.

Lieut. Richard Pinkham, U. S. N. R. , Mrs. Pinkham and little daughter of Milton Road are at Miami Beach, Fla. , while Lieut. Pinkham is taking a special course of training.

He joined NBC in 1951 as manager of network planning He was appointed the executive producer of the Today” show in 1952 and under his aegis, the program became the topbilled program in television broadcasting. He also launched the Home Show with Arlene Francis and the Tonight Show with Steve. Allen.

Richard served as NBCs vice president of network programming non 1956 to 1957. He then joined Ted Bates A Col Advertising, where he rose to vice chairman before retiring in 1975k In that position, he conducted media negotiations on behalf of dozens of major corporations.

He served mar Golf Association, Far Hill, N J. as president of the International 0793L Radio A Television Society, director and member of the Executive Committee of Educational Broadcasting Corp, trustee of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences and a trustee of Outward Bound. He was also a director of the Cadbury Schweppes (USA) beverage company.

Richard lived in Rye for 40 .years before briefly relocating to Greenwich, Conn. He moved to Florida was past commodore of the Kobe Sound Yacht Club in Hobe Sound, FL, and had been active in the U.S. Senior Golf Association. .In April 1941, he married Marry Bunnie” Struthers in Rye.

Richard AR Pinkham retired NBC producer, advertising firm executive Richard Alt Pinkham, a retired NBC television producer and advertising executive who formerly lived in Rye, died Sunday, Jan .1 19, 1997, at the Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Fla. He was 82. .

At the time of his death, survivors included his wife; two daughters, Mary Penny Janeway of Cambridge, Mass., and Elisabeth Betty Anderson of Billings, Mont; two sons, Richard AJL Pinkham Jr. of Re -end David & Pinkham Barringtpn, RI; a stepsister, Helen Andrus of Sarasota, FL; and eight grandchildren.
