Charles Arthur Simonson

Charles Arthur Simonson was born on April 28, 1910, in New York, New York, to Mary J. Darcey, age 26, and Arthur Francis Simonson. He attended New York Military Academy and Dartmouth College.

He married Celia Merriam Howard on August 31, 1935 in Bridgewater, NJ. The wedding was performed at the home of the bride’s parents with the Rev. Robert B. Rock, associate minister of Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, officiated. The couple had three children during their marriage. In Rye his family lived on Laurel Street and later 76 Overlook Place.

He was a member of the Richmond County Country Club and was associated with the New York branch of the Employers’ Liability Assurance Company of London, Eng.

Charles enlisted March 24, 1944 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received basic training at Ft Bragg, NC. He rose to the rank of corporal and received his honorable discharge March 25, 1946.

After returning home to Rye, he worked in advertising with MacFadden Publications in NYC. Charles enjoyed playing golf, badmitton and bridge. He was very involved in the annual community chest drives and the Rye High School Dads Club.

Charles Arthur Simonson died on June 22, 1975, in San Matteo, CA, at the age of 65.

At the time of his death he was survived by his ex-wife, Celia, a son, Michael H. Simonson of Manhattan; a daughter, Bonnie S. Burgess of Manhattan; and two grandchildren.
