Hamilton Truman Slaight

Hamilton Truman Slaight was born on November 1, 1905, in New York, New York, to Harriet I. “Hattie” Hamilton and Herbert Alonzo Slaight. He was a graduate of Kenyon College and Harvard Graduate school of Business Administration. Hamilton engaged in the banking industry in 1928 in New York City and in Rye his family lived on Sound View Ave.

He married Hannah Mariah Shepherd on February 23, 1932. They had two children during their marriage. In 1940, he was working for Chase National Bank, 18 Pine St., NYC and the family had moved to Larchmont.

Hamilton enlisted April 29, 1942 and served as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He rose to the rank of major and received his honorable discharge July 14, 1945.

Hamilton was a prominent 20th-century American banking executive, primarily associated with the Chase National Bank (which later became Chase Manhattan Bank). Key details of his career and life include, he served as an executive at Chase National Bank, rising to the position of Second Vice President in the commercial banking department in 1949.

By 1960, he held the title of Vice President, where he was responsible for staff services in the field of corporate planning. In the 1950s, he was involved in municipal planning and served as the chairman of the Greenwich Planning and Zoning Commission in Connecticut.

Hamilton Truman Slaight died on October 30, 1980, in Fort Pierce, Florida, at the age of 74, and was buried in Peacham, Vermont.
