Irving Steinberg was born on February 14, 1915, in New York City, New York, to Max Steinberg and Ida Salkowsky Steinberg. He had two brothers and was raised and educated in Port Chester. In Rye his family lived at 2 Ellsworth Street.

Irving enlisted March 18, 1941 and served at the 2132 Base Unit, US Army Air Force during World War II. He attended Quartermasters School Camp Lee, Va. and was a sergeant in the Army Quartermasters Corps.

The 2132 Base Unit US Army Air Force (AAF) was a specialized unit stationed at Maxwell Field, Montgomery, Alabama, during World War II. Its primary mission was a Specialized Very Heavy Pilot School.

This unit was part of the larger AAF Training Command, which oversaw the immense effort of training over 100,000 American and Allied flight cadets during the war. The “Base Unit” designation (a common organizational structure at the time) meant it provided all the necessary base services, infrastructure, and command structure for the operations at that specific location.

Irving was honorably discharged November 17, 1945. He married Celia Fienson in November of 1946 in Port Chester, NY. They had two children during their marriage.

He was a shipping clerk at Empire Brush Co.in Port Chester. He was a member of Congregation Kneses Tifereth Israel of Port Chester and took an active part in Veteran and the Jewish Center organizations.

Irving Robert Steinberg, 48, 68 Roberts Ave., Port Chester, Was pronounced dead on arrival at Greenwich Hospital July 29,1963.

At the time of his death, survivors included his wife, the former Celia Fienson, and two daughters, Judith and Marylyn, all of the home address; and two brothers, George and Malcolm, both of Port Chester.
