Charles Peter Taylor

Charles Peter Taylor was born on July 2, 1903, in Mamaroneck, New York. In Rye his family lived at 16 York Avenue.

Charles married Miss Blanche Mae Haviland, of Mount Vernon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs H. A.
Haviland, who reside in Florida, took place November 27, 1926 in the Holy Trinity church at Mamaroneck. Rev. Father Phalen performed the ceremony. After their bridal trip they will reside at 717 Pelhamdale Avenue, Chester Park, Pelham.

The couple would have two children, but the marriage ended in divorce in 1940. Before the war Charles was employed as a store manager for the Atlantic &
Pacific Tea Co.

Charles enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served as a supply sergeant in the Eighth Air Force.

AN EIGHTH AIR FORCE FIGHTER STATION, ENGLAND.

The award of the Bronze Star for . . . the performance of outstanding service has been made to 1st Sgt. Charles P. Taylor of 16 York Avenue, Rye, it was announced by his commanding officer, recently. The Rye soldier is first, sergeant of a P51 Mustang fighter squadron which engages in dive-bombing, strafing and heavy bomber escort missions over Germany.
Before coming overseas to his 8th Air Force fighter station a year ago, 1st Sgt. Taylor established a record of high standard and efficiency both as Supply Sgt. and 1st Sgt. In the language of the award order, the zeal and effort displayed by Sgt. Tay. has contributed greatly to the excellent morale of the organization which now exists. Sgt. Taylor, a former Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. store manager, is the father of a 17-year-old son, Charles A. Taylor, of 16 York Avenue, Rye.

He married Gladys Mae Trible on September 30, 1945, in District of Columbia.

Charles Peter Taylor died on October 4, 1969, in Clarksville, Maryland, at the age of 66.
