EARLY LIFE
Theodore Fremd Jr. was born on August 27, 1895, in Rye, New York, the son of Theodore Fremd and Catherine Luik.
He grew up in a prominent Rye family, his father having served as mayor, village trustee, and president of the Board of Education.
WORLD WAR I SERVICE
Fremd enlisted in the United States Army on November 21, 1917, at Fort Slocum, New York.
He served in aviation-related units including the 241st and 667th Aero Squadrons and later battalion companies of the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps.
These units were part of the Aviation Section of the Signal Corps, responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of early American air service infrastructure in France.
He served overseas from October 21, 1918, to June 27, 1919, stationed near the Swiss border as a chauffeur supporting operations.
He advanced through multiple ranks including Corporal and Corporal First Class. His record indicates no wounds received in action, and he was honorably discharged on July 8, 1919.
POSTWAR LIFE
Following the war, Fremd worked in his family’s retail meat business in Rye before later moving to Deep River, Connecticut.
Theodore Fremd Jr. died on December 1, 1971, in Deep River, Connecticut.
He was survived by his wife, Dorothy Bouton Fremd; a brother, John; and two sisters.
