Arthur S. WaltersArthur S. Walters was born Sept. 20, 1906 in Rye, New York, to Dona G Abrams and Ludwig F Walter. He was raised and graduated Rye High School, class of 1926. In Rye his family lived at 60 Grapal Street and were members of the Presbyterian Church.
He married Pauline Pirina on July 8, 1931, in Greenwich, Connecticut. They had three children during their marriage and the family would live at 398 Midland Avenue. Arthur was then employed at the Rye Post Office.
Arthur enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was stationed at the Adjutant General’s Office (AGO) in Washington, DC
During WWII, the Adjutant General’s Office (AGO) in Washington D.C. was the central administrative hub for the U.S. Army, handling personnel records, assignments, and processing millions of soldiers, with a massive workforce (around 9,000 in D.C. by 1943) working from the War Department Buildings, including the new building at 21st and Virginia Ave., N.W., managing massive tasks like soldier classification and post-war discharges.
After his honorable discharge, Arthur returned home to Rye, his family and the Post Office. He worked in the Rye Post Office for 37 years until his retirement in 1961. He moved to South Harwich, MA shortly after his retirement.
He was a member of the National Federation of Postal Clerks and attended the Rye Presbyterian Church when he lived in Rye.
Arthur Samuel Walters, Sr., of South Harwich, MA, died Sunday March 14, 1971 at Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis, Mass. He was 63.
At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Mrs. Pauline Pirina Walters: two daughters, Mrs. Elaine Zeh of Byram and Mrs. Priscilla Keller of Rye; a son, Arthur S. Walters Jr. of South; Glens Falls, N. Y.; three brothers,; Rudolph of New London, Conn.; I Frank of New Jersey and Lester of Port Chester; four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Madole of California. Miss Viola Walter of Rye: Mrs. Mae Stiilson of Port Chester and Mrs. Dorothy Giordano of the Bronx; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Craft Memorial Home in Port Chester
