EARLY LIFE

August William Fremd was born on July 8, 1895, in Rye, New York, the son of August William Fremd and Anna Fremd.

He was raised in Rye and educated in local schools, part of a family with strong ties to the community.

WORLD WAR I SERVICE

Fremd enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on December 20, 1917, in New York City.

He served with the 5th Marine Regiment and deployed overseas to France on March 27, 1918.

He participated in major engagements including Ch�teau-Thierry, St. Mihiel, and the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.

He was awarded the French Fourrag�re for distinguished unit service.

He served overseas until August 13, 1919, and was honorably discharged following his return to the United States.

POSTWAR LIFE

Following the war, Fremd operated a flower shop and nursery at 88 Purchase Street in Rye and later in Purchase.

He was active in the Rye Fire Department Fire Police Patrol and American Legion Post 93.

August William Fremd died on November 11, 1952, in Hillsdale, New York.

He was survived by his wife, Ethel Tilson Fremd; a sister; and a brother.
