Thaddeus James Heffernan

When Thaddeus James Heffernan was born on January 2, 1912, in New York City, New York, his father, Thomas, was 33 and his mother, Mary, was 34.He had four brothers Thomas, Patrick, Peter and Charles and two sisters Ann and Mary.

In Rye his family lived in Bulkley Manor and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Before the war he was working for Consolidated Edison in the Bronx.



Thaddeus enlisted on April 11, 1941, in New York City, New York, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was 29 years old.

He married Mildred Margaret Rehfield in New York City, New York, on July 3, 1942, when he was 30 years old. They would have two children during their marriage.

His brother Staff Sgt. Peter J. Heffernan was killed in action while serving in the U.S. Army Air Force in July 1944.


After the war Thaddeus would start his career in law enforcement. He was a highly decorated police officer and detective working out of precincts in the Bronx.
