Description
Dana Woodman was born on February 7, 1915, in New York to Ethel C Anthony, age 30, and Dana Woodman, age 32. He had two sisters Jean and Barbara and in Rye his family lived at 14 Elmwood Ave.
Dana was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1932. Before the war he was working as an accountant for the Union Carbide Co.
He served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
In 1942, Virginia Riddell, known to all as Ginger, married Dana Woodman, a graduate of Amherst College and an officer in the U.S. Navy.
Soon after the war, they came to the Maryland Eastern Shore to live on Evergreen Farm not far from Oxford. In 1954, the Woodman family moved to Salisbury.
Ginger was a homemaker, raising their two children and also working as a teller for several years at First National Bank.
Dana was employed as personnel manager at Chris Craft, managed Roberts Shipyard in Cambridge, and then finished his career in accounting at Delmarva Power and Light.
Both Ginger and Dana were active in support of the Salisbury Choral Society, Dana singing with the group and serving as treasurer for some years.
Dana Woodman died on December 5, 2003, in Alexandria, Virginia, when he was 88 years old.
Virginia R. Woodman, a resident of Salisbury, passed away Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, at Lynn House, a Christian Science nursing facility in Alexandria, Va., just a year after her beloved husband.
Ginger and Dana Woodman were survived by their two daughters, Gay Townsend of St Louis and Heather Woodman, who recently returned to the Shore; and locally by their devoted extended family, Krista Perdue of Parsonsburg and Beth, Dan and Chris Holder, originally from Salisbury. The Woodman’s have spent their lives committed to their church.
