Myndert S. Jarvis

Myndert S. “Ike” Jarvis was born in New York on 19 Oct 1889, The son of Frank and Ellen Jarvis, his father was former commissioner of public safety in the old village of White Plains. Ike was born in the old Jarvis home on Grand Street, where the library now stands and was a graduate of White Plains schools.

He served in the Army in the Mexican border conflict, fought in World War I, and was in the Merchant Marine during World War II.

Ike worked for many years in the White Plains Department of Public Works

He was a member of St. John’s Church. Ike was also a member of the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department, Union Hook and Ladder Company No.

1, the Lodge of Elks, and the White Plains Post 135 of the American Legion.

Myndert (Ike) Jarvis died Tuesday October 10, 1967 at Grasslands Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was 77.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his sister Mollie Hunt of Bedford Village.
