Myles S. Flynn

Myles S. Flynn was born December 26, 1907 in Rooskey, Ireland. He emigrated to the US in August of 1930 and became a naturalized citizen in 1939. In Rye he lived at 191 Purchase St. and worked as a golf locker attendant at Westchester Country Club.

Myles enlisted October 23, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served at an Eighth Army Air Force Bomber Station In England. He was a member of the radio maintenance section of the 367 Bomber Squadron of the 306th Bomb Group.

Myles was trained for his specialty at Boca Raton, Fla., Madison, Wis., and Sioux Falls, Iowa. It was his job to check all the equipment in all the planes of his squadron, immediately before and after every mission.

The efforts of ground men like Myles received official recognition when the First Bombardment Division, of which this part, was awarded a Presidential Citation for the “esprit de corps” which made possible the success of the Jan. 11, aircraft 1944, attack, on the enemy’s center at Oschersleben, Germany, in face of formidable enemy opposition.

Myles rose to the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged November 12, 1945.

He married Mary Schmits in 1947 in New Jersey. They had one child during their marriage. Myles S. Flynn died in August 17, 1952, at the age of 44 and was buried in Upper Montclair, New Jersey.
