GEORGE D. KAPPUS

George Dormer Kappus was born on March 16, 1906, in Larchmont, New York, to Ellanor Dormer, age 34, and George Kappus, age 33. He had a sister Virginia a brother John and his family lived at 248 Center Ave, Harrison NY.

He married Margaret Elizabeth Flanagan on August 17, 1934, in New York City, New York. They had two children during their marriage.

George enlisted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

George D. Kappus Made Lieutenant
Following’ graduation from an officer’s candidate class at the Quartermaster School at Camp Lee, Virginia, George D. Kappas, 70 Grace Church Street, Rye, won his gold bars as second lieutenant, it was announced today. Lieut. Kappus was congratulated by Col.
L. R. Wolfe, commandant of the school, who expressed hope that the initiative and leadership which led the new officers to graduation would prove an important contribution toward solving global supply problems.

Both before and after the war George was with Schenley Industries in New York for many years. He was very involved in the Rye Pioneer Club in scheduling and chairing sporting events and other activities.

George D. Kappus of 70 Grace Church Street, died on June 10, 1967, at United Hospital., at the age of 61, and was buried in Port Chester, New York.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Margaret Flanagan Kappus and two sons, George D. Kappus, Jr. and William R. Kappus.
