Lawrence L. Brennan
Lawrence L. Brennan was born Nov. 30, 1906 in Garretson, SD, the son of Patrick and Edith Brennan. He married Doris Thornton September 5, 1936 and they had one daughter and one son. In Rye his family lived at 25 Everett Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Lawrence served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Lawrence graduated from Lombard College in Galesburg, IL, in 1929 and went to work in New York City as a Recreational Director and later as a Physical Education Teacher at Manhatton College. In 1942 he went into the Navy and served in the South Pacific. After the war he went to work for the Veterans’s Administration, first in Seattle, Washington, and then to Washington DC. In 1969 he retired and moved to Fort Myers, Florida.

V-J Day at a major naval base in the Philippines found Lieut. Lawrence L. Brennan, CSNR, thirty-eight, of 25 Everett Street, live, on duty as Assistant Welfare and Recreation Officer for the entire area controlled by this Command. Lieut. Brennan is the husband of Mrs. Doris Thornton Brennan, living at the same address. They have two children, Barbara Jean, seven, and Lawrence L. Jr. . the. He has been overseas for seven months and before entering the service in June, 1912 was Director of Physical Education and Recreation, Manhattan College, New York City. Lieut. Brennan was previously Welfare and Recreation Officer of another overseas base, District Welfare and Recreation officer of the Naval station Norfolk, Va. He attended Lombard College, Galesburg, Il. . ,and National

Lawrence was a member of the Church of the Resurrection and Cypress Lake Country Club.
Lawrence L. Brennan, Sr., of Tavares, FL, formerly of Ft. Myers, died Friday, March 8, 2002. Burial was at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Fort Myers.
At the time of his death he was survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris Thornton Brennan, and children, Barbara and husband, George Kline, and Larry Brennan, Jr., and wife Joan. Also surviving are six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, two sisters, Frances (Ed) Smith and Eileen Medeiros.
Note: Daughter, Barbara J. Kline, b. 1937, d. 12 Nov 2007, Baltimore, MD; buried in Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD.
