Armando Caseria


Armando Caseria was born to Felipe and Virginia Caseria, in Turin, Italy on July 1st, 1918. Armando was raised in Italy for most of his early childhood, but eventually immigrated to the US. Once in the US his family moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut,and then moved to Rye, NY, and lived at 9 Nursery Lane.

Armando’s family consisted of his father Philip, his mother Virginia, his younger brother Dante, and his younger sister Catherine. Armando’s father had a 3rd grade education, and worked as a mechanic. Armando’s mother was a homemaker.

Armando Caseria was a proud, and distinguished member of the Rye High School class of 1936. During senior year, Armando showed exceptional leadership and was voted Senior Class President. He also excelled in sports, especially football and track. Somehow Armando also made room in his busy schedule to be a junior coach and participate in fingerprint club.

After High school Armando went to college, starring at Colgate as quaterback of the football team while earning his 4 year degree. After college Armando took up a part time job as a shipping clerk.

He enlisted November 1, 1941, five weeks before the Japenese bombed Pearl Harbor, bringing the United States into WWII.

Armando nicknamed "Army" served in the Army Air Corps throughout World War II. In February 1943 he married Miss Carol Jeanette Shuler of Washington D C. and they would have three children.

After the end of WWII, Armando continued his service in the Air Force rising to the rank of Colonel. He served over 25 years, retiring December 1, 1967. He had served through three wars, WWII, Korea and Vietnam.

After retiring from the Air Force, Armando was a Flight Instructor at Riverside Airport and an Instructor of Aviation at Riverside City College.

Army passed away at the age of 91 on February 8th, 2010. He was survived by his daughter, Priscilla Andrews; sons, Jeff Caseria (Lydia), and Phillip Caseria; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

He was buried with full military honors at Riverside National Cemetery.

Army served in the United States Air Force for 26 years. After retirement, he was a Flight Instructor at Riverside Airport and an Instructor of Aviation at Riverside City College. Army is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Andrews; sons, Jeff Caseria (Lydia), and Phillip Caseria; 4 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life will take place on 2/17/10, 10:00 A.M. at Arlington Mortuary, with Burial with full military honors to follow at Riverside National Cemetery.
