Dante Caseria

Dante Caseria was born in Connecticut on August 9th, 1920. As a kid Dante lived in Bridgeport CT, until his families move to Rye. In Rye, Dante lived at 124 Maple Ave.. Dante’s family consisted of his father Phillip, his mother Virginia, his older brother Armando, and his younger sister Catherine. Dante’s father had a 3rd grade education, and worked as a laborer in the improvements business. Dante’s mother had a 5th grade education, and was a homemaker.

Dante was a proud and distinguished member of the Rye High School class of 1940. In high school Dante was an outstanding halfback on the varsity football team. He also played varsity baseball, and was Rye’s class president in his Senior year.

After high school, Dante proudly served his country during World War II, in the US Marine Corps, where he held the rank of Sergeant and served in the South Pacific and China.

Dante enlisted March 24, 1944, his service number was 949804. He is listed in Marine Corps Muster Rolls as serving with Headquarters Squadron-51, Marine Aircraft Group-51, Ninth Marine Aircraft Wing.

Marine Aircraft Group-51’s mission was to train, equip and prepare Marine aviation units for combat.

Dante served 11 months and 17 days overseas and was honorably discharged May 22, 1946.

On July 23, 1940 he married Muriel Reifeiss in Harrison, NY and they would have three children. Dante would move to Peekskill NY and start a family.

He worked many years for the US Postal Service retiring a Postal Supervisor in Elmsford. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and belonged to the VFW Post 15033.

Dante P. Caseria, a long time Peekskill resident, passed away on May 27, 2007 at Phelps Memorial Hospital. He was 86. Mrs. Caseria died in 2005. (Full Obituary)

He was survived by a son, Dante Caseria, Jr., his two daughters, Virginia (Brian) Havranek, and Elly (John) Edson, all of Peekskill, a brother, Armando Caseria, of San Bernardino, CA, a sister, Catherine Scott, of Niceville, FL, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a sister, Josephine Dimenno.
