His father rented the home for $50.00 a month ($950.00 in today’s money). Arthur lived with his father, who was also named Arthur, his mother Winifred, and with his younger brother Le Rey. Arthur was an involved member of the community and graduated from Rye High School in 1942.

While in school, Arthur participated in many clubs and events. He was on both the basketball and the football team, and he belonged to the Driver’s Club, the Ping Pong Club, the G.O council, and the Chippewa club. Arthur attended Ithaca College and was a member of the prestigious Adelphi Freshman Honorary Society. He was also elected the President of his senior class and was chosen to be included in the annual edition of "Who's Who In American Universities and Colleges" due to his scholarships, participation in college activities, and character. In 1948, he graduated Ithaca College with the degree of Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and went on to become the director of Physical Education, coaching football and basketball, at Allen-Stevenson School for Boys in New York City. He later developed an extensive career in sales working for Phoenix Home Life Mutual Insurance Company and Upstate Professional Planning Service.
