BIOGRAPHY

Edwin Theodore Perry

Edwin Theodore Perry was born on July 5, 1919, in Franklinton, North Carolina, to Bessie Chavis, age 30, and Marmaduke Perry, age 29. In Rye his family lived at 37 New Street.

Before the war he was working at the Blind Brook Lodge Restaurant. Edwin married Louise Florence Twine on September 1, 1941, in Greenwich, Connecticut. They had two children during their marriage.

Edwin enlisted March 1, 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. According to his Navy Muster Rolls he was stationed at The Supply Depot on Manus Island.

The Supply Depot on Manus Island (part of the Admiralty Islands) was a crucial, massive Allied logistics and naval base during World War II, serving as a primary staging area for the push toward the Philippines and beyond.

Following the capture of the islands from the Japanese in the Admiralty Islands campaign in early 1944, the U.S. Navy Seabees (Construction Battalions) rapidly developed a major base. The facilities were extensive and rivaled those at Pearl Harbor in scope at their peak.

After his honorable discharge, Edwin and his family moved to Greenwich, CT. He was very involved during the 60's and 70's in the local chapter of the NAACP.

Edwin Theodore Perry died on December 27, 1982, in Greenwich, Connecticut, at the age of 63, and was buried there.
