George Washington Adams

George Washington Adams was born Feb. 23, 1908, in Greenwich, Conn., to Arron and Ella Connelly Adams. He was educated in the Greenwich public school system.

He married Leah Janette Hayman on September 29, 1928, in Port Chester, New York. They had one child during their marriage. In Rye his family lived at 398 Rye Beach Ave.

George enlisted February 11, 1944 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged from the service March 9,1946.

After his discharge, George was a truck driver for American Oil Co. of Mount Vernon for 42 years before retiring in 1970 .

He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen of the Mayn Mayno Tribe 46 of Greenwich. George was an avid bowler, according to his family. .. He enjoyed Maine, where he had a vacation home on a lake, said his sister, Lillian ''Molly" Roberto of Greenwich. .

George W. Adams, a former truck driver for American Oil Co. of Mount Vernon, died June 9, 1988 at Rosary Hill Nursing Home in Hawthorne. He was 80 and suffered from, cancer.

His wife, Leah Hayman Adams, died in 1980. The couple had been married for 52 years.

At the time of his death, in addition to his sister, he was survived by a foster son, Jim DelBorgo of Port Chester; two other sisters, Elsie Birdsall of Sandy Hook, Conn. and Ellen ''Polly DePauw of West Palm Beach, Fla.; and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother Harry L. Adams.
