Harry A. Adams

Harry Aaron Adams was born Jan. 17, 1925, in Port Chester, NY to Harry L. and Anna Herbst Adams. In Rye his family lived at 390 Forest Avenue and they were parishioners of the Church of the Resurrection. Harry had two sister Doris and Diane. Harry was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1942. While at Rye High School he was on many different sports teams. He was said to be a quite humorous guy with some seriousness when it was needed.

Harry enlisted February 3, 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. His active duty service number was 7106045 and he was a Radioman Second Class (RM2c) .
In the U.S. Navy during WWII, a (RM2c) was a 3rd-grade petty officer responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing radio, direction-finding, and coding equipment, often nicknamed “Sparks”. They were essential for transmitting/receiving Morse code and messages, often working on ships, in aircraft, or at shore stations.

Harry served 18 months in the Pacific and was awarded six service ribbons from the Asiatic-Pacific and ETO and three battle stars for the Philippine campaign.

He lived in Rye and the Rye area once moving back after the War. Harry married Barbara Bursey April 21, 1946 at the Church St.

Bernard, White Plains. The Rev. Morgan T. O’Brien officiated and the reception and dinner was at Winkelmann’s Lodge, White Plains.

Harry worked for Inter-Connect Planning Corp. which had offices in New York City and Greenwich. Before joining Inter-Connect, he worked as a pipe-coverer for Asbestos Distributor Inc. in Port Chester. Harry himself was a part of several clubs or committees one being the Veterans Committee and he was a parishioner of the Church of the Resurrection in Rye.

Harry A. Adams of Rye, a corporate chauffeur, died June 20, 1984 at United Hospital in Port Chester after a long illness. He was 59.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, Yvette Adams of Rye, a son, Jeffrey C. of New York City, two daughters, Nanci J. Meisner of Lake-wood, NJ., and Chris Gateman of Uncasville, Conn;; and five grandchildren
