Gerard D. Heffernan

Gerard D. Heffernan was born Aug 35 1911 in Rye to Mary A Passmbre and Thomas F Heffernan. His father, Thomas, was 42 and his mother, Mary, was 36. He had 3 sisters and a brother. In Rye his family lived at 238 Purchase Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Gerard was educated in Rye schools and enlisted and served in the U.S. He died on January 30, 1981, in his hometown at the age of 69, and was buried there. Gerard served in th U.S. Army during World War II. He married Mary Aileen Louise Malloy on February 14, 1942 and they had four children in 26 years.

Gerard D “Shrimp” Heffernan once played semi-professional softball with the Westchester Bruins .

For many years he worked as an ambulance driver for United Hospital in Port Chester. Later he had worked in the receiving department at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Institute for Cancer Research, Walker Laboratories, Rye and as a security guard at Milton Harbor House

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife Aileen Malloy Heffernan of the home address a daughter Mrs. Mare (Anne) Saracino Jr of Rye a brother Frank J Heffernan of Richfield Springs NY and two sisters Mrs George (Regina) MacCullough of Sommers and Mrs Dub (Florence) Taylor of Woodland Hills, CA and three gradchildren
