Patrick Aloysius Heffernan was born on May 28, 1909, in New York to Mary A Tobin, age 31, and Thomas J. Heffernan, age 30. He had four brothers Thomas, Thaddeus, Peter and Charles and two sisters Ann and Mary.
In Rye his family lived in Bulkley Manor and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Patrick enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Patrick served as a Staff Sergeant in the 310th Infantry Regiment. The regiment served in the Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, Central Europe campaigns.
His brother Staff Sgt. Peter J. Heffernan was killed in action while serving in the U.S. Army Air Force in July 1944.
Patrick Heffernan, 72, of Lanark Village, died Thursday July 30,1981 at the Apalachicola Health Care Center after a long illness. He was a native of New York, N.Y., and had lived in Lanark Village for 23 years.
He was a retired accountant, a veteran of World War II and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lanark Village.
At the time of his death, survivors included two sisters, Ann Heffernan of Lanark Village and Mary Arlington of Jacksonville.
Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, FL.
