Harry G. Jameson

Harry George Jameson was born in New York August 2, 1926 to Harry and Rose Buschmeyer Jameson. He had one sister Joan.

In Rye his family lived at 385 Midland Ave and were members of the Presbyterian Church. Harry was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1944.

He left high school during his senior year and enlisted March 13, 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy in World War II.

Harry's Service Number was 7126959 and his Naval Training was in Sampson, New York and Newport, Rhode Island. He served as a Seaman 1st Class onboard the USS Vicksburg Cl-86.

USS Vicksburg was a Cleveland-class light cruiser of the United States Navy, which were built during World War II.

The Vicksburg supported the invasions of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. It provided strategic fire support for the US Marine advance during both battles

Harry was awarded The American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific With 2 Stars, Philippine Liberation, Victory and The Good Conduct Medals. He was honorably discharged on January 25, 1946.

He returned to Rye and worked as a veterinarian assistant for Dr. H. Harmon-V. D. M.. In 1950 Harry was working as a waiter at the Boca Raton Club.

He married Miss Violet Johnson at All Saints' Church, Harrison, Sunday May 11, 1952. The Rev. Walter Chater, rector, performed the ceremony. A reception attended by more than 100 persons followed at the bride's home.

Harry was just graduated from the N.Y. Institute of Photography in New York City. He was employed in photography work with a public relations firm in New York City. After a motor tour of the South, the couple lived in Rye..
