BIOGRAPHY
 
John F. Murphy was born in New York in 1919. In Rye his family lived at 131 Purchase Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. John enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

John P. Murphy, a resident of Rye Brook, NY, died September 6, 2009. Born February 12, 1919 in New York City to the late John and Anna McGonigle Murphy, he was 90 years of age. Raised and educated in New York City, he was an officer with Corroon and Black, a Manhattan based insurance Company. He was a three and a half year combat veteran in World War II, serving in the Army. Mr. Murphy was recently honored when Pope Benedict bestowed upon him Papal Honors in the form of the Bene Merenti Medal. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marie of Rye Brook, NY, sons, Matthew Murphy and wife Candice of Jackson, MI, John Murphy and wife Rae Ann of Rye, NY, daughter Meg Arena and husband Frank of Monroe, CT, brother Charles Murphy of Pinehurst, NC, sister Jayne Walsh of Ohio and 13 loving grandchildren. He was predeceased by his daughter Sharon Robertson and sister Grace O'Brien. Visitation will be 5-9 PM today Wednesday September 9, 2009 at Craft Memorial Home, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10AM on Thursday September 10, 2009 at Our Lady of Mercy Church 260 Westchester Ave, Port Chester, NY, Entombment to follow at Saint Mary's Cemetery Rye Brook, NY.
