Russell D Munson was born on July 24, 1901, in Port Chester, New York, to Reta Clarissa White, age 22, and Harry Chapman Munson, age 25. He grew up in Port Chester, where his uncle served as mayor and was graduated from the Port Chester High School. He attended Georgia Tech and McGill University in Canada.

Russell married Florence Munson September 17, 1929 in Rye, New York. The wedding took place in the chancel of Christ’s Church in Rye. A small group of relatives and friends witnessed the ceremony, The Rev. R.
T. Henshow, Rector, officiated. After the ceremony, a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents for the members of the two families and a few intimate friends.

They had two children during their marriage and in Rye his family lived at 210 Ridge St..

Russell enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He served during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer with the Seabees, 49th Construction Battalion and built port facilities in Bermuda

After his discharge from the service, Russell was, head of the Munson Company, White Plains land surveyors, until his retirement in 1968. He was a member of Christ’s Church in Rye and a former member of the Town of Rye Planning Board.

He was predeceased by a brother, Halsey J. Munson III.

Russell Davies Munson died on July 9, 1972, in New York at the age of 70, and was buried in Rye, New York.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife, the former Flora Shedden, of the home address; two sons, Bruce M.
and Peter C. Munson, both of the home address. He is also survived by two sisters Mrs. Clarissa Kelley of Greenwich and Mrs. Elena Werner of Byram; a niece and several nephews.
