 Livingston Platt Jr.
Livingston Platt Jr. was born on October 29, 1919, in New York City, New York, to Agnes Booth and Livingston Platt. He had two brothers William and Frank and a sister Priscilla and in Rye the family lived at 135 Grandview Ave. His father, Livingston Platt Sr. served as the first ever Mayor of Rye. In Rye his family lived at 135 Grandview Ave.
Livingston was graduated from the Ashville School and Yale University, where he was a member of the Fence Club and Wolf's Head Society. He belonged to the Yale Club and the Apawamis Club of Rye..
Livingston enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. He served two years in Europe as a captain, AAF and was awarded the Bronze Star. He was as squadron communications department officer with the 442d Troop Carrier Group.
The 442nd Troop Carrier Group (TCG) was a pivotal U.S. Army Air Forces unit in World War II, famous for dropping paratroopers and towing gliders during major operations like the Normandy invasion (D-Day), Operation Market Garden, and the Rhine crossing, using C-47 Skytrain aircraft. This historic unit, known for its crucial role in delivering troops and supplies across Europe.
Bronze Star Is Awarded To Capt. Platt Capt. Livingston Platt, Jr., son of County Republican Chairman and Mrs. Livingston Platt, of 135 Grandview Avenue, Rye has been awarded the Bronze Star, for meritorious performance of his duties as squadron 'communications department officer with the 442d Troop Carrier Group in the European Theater of Operations from June 6 to Sept. 30, 1944, it was revealed today.
The citation from a troop carrier base termed Capt. Platt's assignment as "one of great responsibility", asserting that the smooth and efficient functioning of the ground and air sections of his department played an important role in the successful execution of his squadron's various C-47 Skytrain operations. Capt. Platt's squadron is part of the U. S.
Troop Carrier Forces, the U. S. component of the newly formed First Allied Airborne Army which made its battle debut in the airborne invasion on the north flank of the Germany Army in Holland.
Livingston received his honorable discharge and returned home. He married Katherine or Katy Hastings Kaelber on September 22, 1946, in Rochester, New York. The ceremony was performed in the Salem Church, Rochester, of which the bride's great-grandfather was founder and first pastor. William Samuel Meyer, C Central Church, Rochester, and Dr.
Paul M. Schroeder, of the Salem Church, officiated. The couple would have four children during their marriage.
 He started his banking career in 1946 with the NY Trust Co. In 1948, the couple would make their home in Rochester and start their family. Livingston was working in the credit department at Security Trust Co. in Rochester. He was made a vice president of Security Trust in the early 1960's. Livingston would eventually relocate to Essex, CT. His wife Katherine or Katy Hastings passed away on May 17, 2003, in Essex, Connecticut, at the age of 82. They had been married 56 years. After her death, he would move to Washington to live with his son Jonathon Hastings Platt.
Livingston Platt Jr. died on September 22, 2006, in Gig Harbor, Washington, at the age of 86.
