FRANK HINCHMAN PLATT

Frank Hinchman Platt was born on June 6, 1913, in New York, New York, to Agnes Booth, age 26, and Livingston Platt, age 28. He had two brothers William and Livingston and a sister Priscilla and in Rye the family lived at 135 Grandview Ave. His father, Livingston Platt Sr. served as Mayor of Rye.

Frank was graduated from Phillips Andover Academy at Andover, Mass., and Yale University, class of 1935, where he was a member of Zeta Psi and Wolf’s Head. He graduated from the University of Virginia Law School in 1939 and practiced law in New York.

He married Miss Audrey Achelis, of Greenwich Saturday July 25,1939, at Christ’s Church, Greenwich.
The Reverend Albert Wilson performed the ceremony which was followed by a reception at the home of
the bride’s mother on Round Hill
Road.

Frank enlisted January 15, 1942 and served as an officer in the US Army. He received his honorable discharge on February 9, 1946. After his discharge, he and his wife would live in Greenwich and have three children.

Frank was a former partner in the New York law firm of Bleakley and Platt. He was active in Greenwich civic affairs and also was chairman of the Little Cumberland Island Association in Georgia, which has maintained a sea turtle breeding ground for 27 years.

He served as president of the Greenwich Library board in 1968 and 1969 and as president of the Greenwich Hospital board between 1971- and 1973. Frank and his wife were avid golfers at The Round Hill Club. He was a past member of the Yale Club, the Apawamis Club and the American Yacht Club.

Frank Hinchman Platt III, a retired lawyer and conservationist died at Greenwich (Conn.) Hospital on June 20,1990. He died after a brief illness, his wife, Audrey, said. He was 77.
