 Milton Newman Milton Newman was born December 23, 1907 in Brooklyn, New York to Rose Waldner, age 21, and Harry Newman, age 27. Milton had three brothers, David, Sydney and Leonard and a sister, Rose. He was raised and educated in Brooklyn and Oyster Bay, LI. The family moved to Rye by 1930 and in Rye his family lived at 15 Purchase Street.
Milton enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a corporal in the 358th Fighter Group.

The 358th Fighter Group was a decorated United States Army Air Forces unit in World War II, known as the "Orange Tails". The group primarily flew the P-47 Thunderbolt (and briefly the P-51 Mustang with the 355th Fighter Group) and provided bomber escort and ground attack support for the Allied advance across Europe, serving with both the Eighth and Ninth Air Forces.
The 358th participated in several major campaigns, including the Air Offensive, Europe; Normandy; Northern France; Rhineland; Ardennes-Alsace; and Central Europe.
After his honorable discharge Milton returned to Rye. He would marry Ida Mae Newman and they would have two children. The family would move from Rye to Jacksonville, FL in 1951. Ida died suddenly in 1956 while on vacation, leaving behind Milton and their two young children.
Milton Newman died October 12,1981 in Duval , Fl, he was 73.
