Peter Lalla

Peter Lalla was bom Oct 24 1917 to Michael and Theresa Cocomazzi Lalla in Rye where he attended schools. He had five brothers and three sisters. Joseph, Gertrude, Frank, Domenico, Peter, Antoinette, Bart and John. In Rye his family lived at 30 High Street and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Peter enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Peter served as a staff sergeant in the Army from March 1942 to August 1945 He received the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and the Purple Heart for his service during World War II

Two Lalla Brothers Wounded in Action
The Lalla brothers of West Rye, active in athletics at Rye High School, have been in the thick of the fighting overseas. Two of the three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Lalla, 30 High Street, were reported wounded, but not seriously. Pfc. Peter Lalla was shot in the right shoulder by a sniper on the island of Leyte in the Pacific and in a letter to his parents stated he would be hospitalized for some time. Attached to the 77th Division, he has been in the service nearly three years and was awarded the Purple Heart. Three months after he went overseas, Pfc. Bartholomew Lalla, 21 years old, has been twice wounded in France. His wounds were "slight," according to word received by his parents. The third son, Pvt. Joseph Lalla, is in the Philippines with an anti-aircraft unit.

On Dec 7 1946 he and Ann Havir were married in Mahopac.

Peter worked as an automobile painter at Vic's Garage in Mahopac retiring in 1985. The couple lived in Mahopac until 1966 moved to Port Chester and moved back to Mahopac in 1975 spending winters in Babylon Beach Fla

Peter Lalla: retired automobile painter, World War II veteran died 7/14/1995 at Greenwich (Conn) Hospital. He was 77. His wife died Dec 1994 and he returned to Port Chester.

At the time of his death Peter was survived by brothers Dominick T Lalla Port Chester and Bart Lalla Rye and a sister Antoinette Campiarota of Port Chester. Three brothers and a sister died earlier
