Jean Barbara Altiere

Jean Barbara Altiere was born February 17, 1921 in New Rochelle, New York to Ruth Bonnell and John T Altieri. She had one sister Irene and they were raised in New Rochelle and Englewood, NJ . Jean was a graduate of Lauralton Hall, Milford, Conn., and Farmville, Va., College. and attended Radford College.

Her parents divorced in the mid 1930’s and her mother remarried Arthur Evers and the family lived on North Street in Rye.

In 1941, Jean’s biological father, a construction engineer, was working for the government and living in Washington, DC. At that time, Jean was entering her sophomore year at Radford University and living in Faifax County, VA. On August 30, 1944 she was a teacher and living in Alexandria, VA.

Jean served with the American Red Cross during World War II and is listed on the Roll of Honor at City Hall, Rye NY. She was with the Red Cross for a year as a staff officer in the Reindeer Officers Club in London.

The Reindeer Club was an American Red Cross club for officers located in London during World War II, specifically in the vicinity of Clifford Street, as part of a network of clubs established for US servicemen. The club provided meals, recreational activities, and, in many cases, overnight accommodations for officers.

In France With Red Cross
Jean B. Altiere, North Street, Rye, has arrived in France to serve the armed forces as an American Red Cross staff assistant. Before her Red Cross appointment, Miss Altiere taught at South Beach Elementary School in Miami, Fla. She is a graduate of Lauralton Hall, Milford, Conn., and Farmville, Va., College. and attended Radford College.

Going to Germany
Miss Jean V. Altiere, daughter of
Mrs. Arthur Evers of North Street,
has been detached from service with
the Red Cross to go with the Quartermaster personnel of the United Kingdom Area Office of the U. S. Army
and will be sent to Frankfurt, Germany about the first of April. She had
been with the Red Cross for a year as
a staff officer in the Reindeer Officers
Club in London.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Evers Announce Daughter’s Marriage

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Evers of North
Street announce the marriage of Mrs.
Evers’ daughter, Jean Barbara Altiere,
to Captain Robert J. Robinson, AAF at
Bournemouth, England, in October,
1945. Mrs. Robinson has been with
the American Red Cross as a Recreation Staff assistant at the Reindeer
Officers Club in Clifford Street, London. She has been overseas about a
year.
The couple is now at the McAlpin
Hotel in New York City, having just
returned to this country.

Jean and Robert would go on to have seven children during their marriage and spend many happy years in the Florida Keys.

Jean Barbara Altiere Robinson died February 21, 2006 in Key West, FL and is buried at the Key West Cemetery.
