John T. Beaty was born in New York City Oct. 14, 1917 the son of Julian Bonar and Constance Saltonstall Peck Beaty. He had two brothers Richard and Julian and a sister Nancy. In Rye his family lived on Dogwood Lane and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

He was educated at Princeton and Columbia Medical Schools. John served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II.

John was serving with The 1882nd Service Unit, Regional
Hospital, Camp Maxey, OK, when a tornado hit in 1945.

After the war, he specialized in the practice of alternative medicine in Greenwich, Conn., from 1949 until his retirement in 1990. He was a resident of Waynesville, NC after his retirement.

Dr. John Thurston ”Jack” Beaty, 82, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.

He was survived by his wife of 22 years, Catherine Randall Beaty; a daughter, Dr. Janet Beaty, N.D., of Harvard, Mass; three sons, J.T. ”Terry” Beaty Jr. of Bethesda, Md., James MacKay Beaty of Lexington, Mass., Jeffrey Peck Beaty of Alexandria, Va.; a grandson, James Corsoaden Beaty; three stepchildren; five stepgrandchil-dren; a sister; and two brothers.

There was a memorial service at Grace Episcopal Church in the Mountains. The Rev. Dr. Howard W. White Jr. officiated.
