Jullian B. Beaty

Julian Bonar Beaty was born on September 15, 1916, in New York City, New York, to Constance Saltonstall Dawbarn Peck, age 25, and Julian Bonar Beaty, age 35. He had three brothers, David, Richard and John and a sister Nancy. In Rye his family lived on Dogwood Lane and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

Jerry entered Princeton from Loomis School with Ty Cobb, Charlie Kip, and Jim Whitlock. He was a member of the Prince, Triangle Club, and Cannon Club and graduated magna cum laude in English. He attended the University of Virginia School of Law.

Jullian (Jerry) served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. Jerry was an Army counterintelligence officer in the European theater. He remained in Germany as a major in the civil affairs division of the United States Forces European Theater. A member of the Army Reserve, Jerry retired in 1981 as a lieutenant colonel.

He married Mary Rodgers on November 30, 1951, in his hometown. They had three children during their marriage. Jerry joined his family’s law firm, Reeves, Todd, Ely & Beaty. It was dissolved in 1975. He then became a partner in Cusack & Stiles, resigning in 1985 to practice solo in Bridgehampton, N.Y., until his retirement in 2001.
Both Jerry and his father (Class of 1906) served as secretaries of their Princeton classes.

Jerry served as secretary of several corporations, secretary of The Lawyers Club, was on the board of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, and was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church of East Hampton, N.Y.

Jerry Beaty died Aug. 26, 2011, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., He was survived by three children, Richard R., Nina B, and Constance P.; three grandchildren; and his brother, David.
