William N. Berech was born in Rudka, Ukraine on February 12, 1911 to the late Nikita and Olga Gutovskaya Berech. In Rye his family lived on North Street.

William was a graduate of Rye High School, Class of 1931 and went on to graduate from Columbia University in 1935.

William served as an officer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a Captain in the U. S. Army and was a personal aide to General Mark Clark in the European Theater of Operations.

Mark Wayne Clark (May 1, 1896 – April 17, 1984) was a United States Army officer who saw service during World War I, World War II, and the Korean War. He was the youngest four-star general in the US Army during World War II.

BERLIN: William Nicholas Bereck,
.son of Nicholas Bereck of North
Street, Rye, has recently been promoted to captain. At present he is assigned to the Liaison and Protocol Branch of the Office of Military Government for Germany. Captain Bereck born in Russia,
speaks the language fluently and
serves as an interpreter for high ranking American officers and civilian officials in conferences held with Soviet
delegates to Quadripartite meetings in
Berlin.
A graduate of Columbia University,
Captain Bereck has five years of military service including ten months of
overseas assignment to his credit.

After his discharge from the Army he entered the advertising industry. He retired in 1969 as a Senior Vice President of a major Advertising Agency. In 1968 he met and married Mildred Curto of Valley Stream, NY.

William N. Berech a resident of Rye Brook, NY died Saturday December 2, 2000. He was 89.
He was survived by his loving wife, Mildred Berech, and his devoted son, Chip Berech both of Rye Brook, NY. He was also survived by his nephew, Bill Archer of Old Lyme, CT., and niece, Libby Archer of Middletown, CT.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Willett Ave., Port Chester, NY on Wednesday December 6, 2000 at 9:30AM. Interment followed at Greenwood Union Cemetery Rye, NY.
