Thomas J. Carey

Thomas Joseph “Tom” Carey was born on May 30, 1918, in New York, his father, Thomas, was 34 and his mother, Kathleen, was 23. He had two brothers and one sister.

Per the 1940 Census, at the age of 21, Thomas J was the oldest of 4 children in the household. His father was 56 and his mother was 45. Thomas ‘s father had a college education and was manager of the Apawamis Club, while his mother had a high school education. Both his father and mother were born in Irish Free State.

Thomas and his siblings were born in New York. In Rye his family lived at 44 Meadow Place and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Thomas was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1936.

He enlisted in 1943 and served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J.
Carey, 41 Meadow Place, he spent
several days with his family before
leaving on Thursday to join hi-s command on the Pacific Coast. Another
son, Neil, is with the Merchant Marine
in the South Pacific and their youngest son, Martin, was recently inducted
into service.

Thomas would rise to the rank of Major before his discharge in 1946. He would go on to graduate NYU an be succesful in the business world.

Thomas Joseph Carey died on February 15, 1996, in San Diego, California, at the age of 77, and was buried there.
