Victor P. Cicchiello

Victor P. Cicchiello was in Rye Aug 10 1923 he was the son of the late James and Ros? Russo Cicchiello. He had three brothers, Leonard, Salvatore, and Albert and two sisters Katherine and Josephine. In Rye his family lived at 30 Elizabeth St. and were members of the Church of the Resurrection.

Victor enlisted and served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the the 386th Anti-Aircraft Artillery.

On June 6 1944 Normandy France -a day better known to generations of Americans as “D-Day”, Rye realtor Anthony Catanese was part of the “Invasion of Normandy” ‘ as were Joseph Bunco and Al Spiarri of Port Chester Victor Cicchiello of Rye Town and Jimmy Hagele of Rye.

Four of the men were part of the same “Triple A” outfit the 386th Anti-Aircraft Artillery which was attached to the 1st Division of the 9th Army Corp -the units that hit Omaha Beach to an intense assault that lasted more than a month Some 60,000 men’ and 6,800 vehicles made up the first invasion fleet in the assault that probably shortened the war by a year

After the war Victor married Rosanne Romani November 2, 1947 in Rye. He was the head custodian at the Midland Avenue School for more than 30 years. He was known as “Mr Vic”

James Larkin principal of the “Midland Avenue School called him a very affable man “He liked to joke with the children” Larkin said “He got along extremely well with the teachers and was very cooperative with the PTO and their activities especially the fair. He was a very very nice person”

Victor P Cicchiello a Rye school custodian died Tuesday June 1, 1981 at United Hospital. He was 57.

At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Rosanne Romani Cicchiello , two daughters Marilyn Ann Cicchiello of Costa Mesa Calif and Mrs Kenneth (Linda) Seltman of Valley Cottage NY and a brother Salvatore J Cicchiello of Rye – He was predeceased by two sisters Katherine Repad and Josephine DeCrescenxo and two brothers Albert and Leonard Cicchiello ‘
