Edward J. Clay was born Jan 23 1926 in New York to Joseph and Mary Dolan Clay. In Rye his family lived at 584 Boston Post Road.

Edward was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1943 and later from the Juilliard School of Music in New York City.

He was an accomplished musician who served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. Edward served in the Marine Corps from June 19, 1943 to May 29, 1946 and spent 1 year and 11 months overseas.

His service number was 535693. Marine Corps Muster Rolls show he was a sergeant with the 22nd Marine Regiment, 6th Marine Division stationed in the Pacific during World War II. The 6th Marine Division was a United States Marine Corps World War II infantry division formed in September 1944.

During the Battle of Okinawa it saw combat at Yae-Take and Sugar Loaf Hill and was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation. Edward received the World War II Victory Medal the Good Conduct Medal and two Asiatic Pacific Stars.

On May 31 1952 he and Arlene Williams were married at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester They settled in Port Chester that year.

For 20 years Edward was a salesman and district manager for Beech-Nut Life Saver Corp in Port Chester. He retired when he was 59. Afterward he spent five years as a security guard for Gleason Security in White Plains

Edward was a parishioner at Our Lady of Mercy Church in Port Chester He was active in the Catholic Youth Program and the Port Chester Little League.

Edward was a trumpet player who was a member of the Port Chester American Legion’s marching band He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans

Edward J. Clay died Tuesday January 17, 1995 at United Hospital Medical Center in Port Chester a village he had lived in for 43 years. He was 68.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his wife of Port Chester, a son Michael E Clay of Pelham Manor and a grandson.
