John Fisher Cranston was born in New York October 7, 1914 to Lola Fisher and Loren J. Cranston. In Rye his family lived at Blind Brook Lodge.
John attended Ohio State University and Pennington Preparatory School and became a pilot with United Airlines before the war. At the time of Wendell Willkie’s notification of his presidential candidacy, John Cranston was delegated to pilot the candidate’s plane to Elwood, Ind.
John served as an officer in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served 4 years in the Air Transport Command. He flew C-47’s with the Fourth Ferrying Group, transporting wounded out of Memphis, TN to various US hospitals. John rose to the rank of captain before his honorable discharge in the fall of 1945.
Miss Carolyn Humphreys Bride of Capt. John F. Cranston
Announcement has been made of the marriage of Miss Carolyn Stockley Humphreys, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Stockley Humphreys of Memphis, TN to Captain John Fisher Cranston, Air Transport Command, son of Mis. Lola Cranston, Blind Brook Lodge and the late Mr. Cranston. The ceremony was performed Saturday at Memphis by Chaplain Madry of the Fourth Ferrying Group. The bride is a graduate of Southwestern University and is a member of the Memphis Junior League. Captain Cranston attended Pennington Preparatory School and Wesleyan University. He will soon receive his discharge papers at Fort Dix and will then be associated with the United Air Lines. After a wedding trip they will make their home in Greenwich.

The couple made their home at Greenwich, Conn. Captain Cranston, after his discharge, worked for United Air Lines in an executive capacity.
John Fisher Cranston died on February 23, 2002, in Pebble Beach, California, at the age of 87.
