Description
Huber F. Crippen was born in New Britain, CT, Sept. 8, 1907, he was the son of Homer and Helen Fry Crippen. Huber was a resident of the Amenia-Dover Plains area for most of his life. He attended the Peddie Prepatory School and the University of Pennsylvania.
Huber married Marjorie Beers on October 7,1932 and in Rye his family lived at 36 Dearborn Avenue.
Huber enlisted November 1942 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He has served with the 49th Fighter Group and participated in the Papuan. New Guinea, Bismarck Archipelago. Southern Northern Philippines campaigns. He returned to America from overseas September 25, 1945 and received his discharge.
After the war Huber moved out of Rye. He started the Babe Ruth League in Dutchess County and served as state commissioner of the league in 1951. He also managed two New York State Harlem Valley All Star championship teams.
He was remarried to Edith Gadway on July 21, 1964. Huber retired in September, 1972, as a mental hygiene therapy aide at the Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center, where he had been employed for approximately 10 years. Prior to that, he was employed as a salesman for the Sexauer Co.
Huber F. Crippen, 68, died August 18, 1976 at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Albany.
At the time of his death, he was survived by by his wife, the former Edith Gadway; aunt Mrs. Florence Deming, Cheshire, CT, cousins Dr. Lois Armbruster and June Anquillare, both of Cheshire. The Funeral was held at the Hufcut Funeral Home Inc., Dover Plains. Burial was at Amenia Island Cemetery.
