Walter F. Everard

Walter Francis Everard was born on May 28, 1922, in Rye, New York, his father, Walter, was 41 and his mother, Alyce, was 27.. His family lived at 345 Milton Road and were members of the Church of the Resurrection. Walter was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1941. He enlisted and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Walter enlisted on October 16, 1942, in Clay, Florida, during World War II. He was 20 years old.

He was a Flight Engineer for the United States Air Force for over 20 years and also served in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars.

After the Air Force, he obtained his Masters Degree from Syracuse University. Walter became an English professor at Northwestern Senior High, Largo Senior High, Prince George’s Community College and The University of Maryland, College Park. He had one son and four daughters with Helen Cecila Kelly.

He was a member of St. Edwards Catholic Church in Bowie, MD and was a member of the Disabled Veterans Association, National Education Association and an Alumnae of Brown University. His favorite pastimes were reading, animals and playing chess.

Walter Francis Everard died on May 27, 2007, in Bowie, Maryland, at the age of 84, and was buried in Arlington, Virginia.

At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, Helen Cecilia Everard of Bowie, MD. He was the devoted father of Jackie McClure and husband, Scott of Columbia, MD, Janice Stern of Crofton, MD and Helen Mary Everard of Bowie, MD; loving grandfather of Morgan and Courtney McClure of Columbia, MD, Drew Stern of Bowie, MD, Joe Stern of Severna Park, MD, David Stern of Evansville, IN, Sam, Daniel and John Stern of Bowie, MD.

Walter was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Everard in 1977; son, John Everard in 1993 and his brother, Allan Everard.
