Otto Christie Heddericg

Otto Christie Heddericg was born on July 24, 1907, in Whitman, Massachusetts, to Elizabeth Schuler, age 37, and Diseareh William Heddericg, age 40. is a graduate of Bates College in Lewiston.

ME and studied at Bates and at New York University for his Master of Arts degree. Before beginning Army service he taught English and coached baseball at Rye High School for nine years.

Otto enlisted July 28,1942 and served as a sergeant in U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. While serving with the Army Air Forces, he was a member of the Intelligence Corps serving in the Pacific and Philippine Theatres of War. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Victory. Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, and the Philippine Liberation Citation.

He married Beatrice Zehder on November 17, 1943, in Greenburgh, New York. They had two children during their marriage. In Rye his family lived at 32 Meade Place and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

After the war, Otto, former baseball coach, and member of the English Department of the Rye High School, accepted a position on the teaching staff of the English Department of the Harrison- High School. He resigned from his position at, the Rye school in June, 1946 after completing 15 years as a member of the school faculty, three of which was spent in the Armed Forces.

He retired from teaching in 1971 and moved to Vinalhaven, Maine. In retirement, he was a member of the editoral staff of the local newspaper “The Wind’ and also was a news correspondent for radio station WRKD .

Otto Christie Heddericg died of a heart attack while driving his car on August 21, 1984, in Vinalhaven, Maine, at the age of 77.
