Gloster Parnell Hevenor was born on December 31, 1921, in Rochester, New York, to Olive J Vreeland, age 33, and Gloster Parnell Hevenor, age 32. In Rye his family lived at 344 Rye Road.

Gloster received his education at Bellows High School, the Choate School and Brown University. He was well known in local yachting circles, he was a member of the American Yacht Club, the Propeller Club and the Brown University Club of New York.

Gloster served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II. A student at Brown University when he entered the Navy in 1942, He received his training at the New York State Maritime Academy at Fort Schuyler, N. Y., receiving his commission as ensign in April, 1944. He was one of 135 cadet-midshipmen to graduate at the 87th commencement exercises at the oldest maritime academy in the United States.

He earned U. S. Maritime service license as a third engineer for both steam and diesel vessels of any size. He was assigned to active duty as assistant engineer officer on the U.S.S. General O. H. Ernst which took part in the landings at New Guinea, Guam and Saipan.

The Ernst returned to San Diego and Gloster was transferred to the U.S.S. Abatan, later participating in the landings at Leyte and Okinawa. Lt. Gloster Hevenor was awarded the Pacific, Philippine Liberation, China-Burma, and Victory ribbons.

After two years he returned home via Shanghai, China, to New York aboard the Abatan where he was on duty, now as chief engineer. When he was discharged in 1946, Lt. Hevenor became a member of the reserves.

He was recalled to active duty early 1951 to serve in the Korean War. While on inactive duty he was production manager of the Johnson-March Corporation and Sales Engineer for the Anchor Packing Company.. He would become a career Navy man and was married three times and had two sons.

Gloster Parnell Hevenor died on January 8, 2001, in Massachusetts at the age of 79, and was buried in Yarmouth, Massachusetts.
