Harold Whiting “Joe” Hunsiker

Harold Whiting “Joe” Hunsiker was born on July 9, 1915, in Buffalo, New York to Florence Melissa Lufkin, age 23, and Harold Whiting Hunsiker, age 27. He was raised in Buffalo and attended Nichols School and later the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT. He graduated Yale University and was a member of the class of 1938.

In early 1940, Joe was working for the Pittsburg Plate and Glass Co. in Houston , TX. In December 1940, he had moved back to NY and had enlisted in the National Guard, serving in the Coast Artillery Corps. His family was now living in Rye on Kirby Lane were members of the Presbyterian Church.

Joe enlisted February 10, 1941 in U.S. Army to serve during World War II. He served as an officer and rose to the rank of Major in the anti- aircraft artillery.

He married Marguerite Bellamy Barroll on February 22, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They had four children during their marriage.

The couple would live in Pittsburgh and raise their family. Joe worked for many years for PPG Industries and was sales service manager for primary glass. Throughout his life he was an avid biker and skier.

Harold Whiting “Joe” Hunsiker died on December 20, 2011, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, at the age of 96.

Beloved husband of the late Marguerite (Barroll) Hunsiker; father of Marguerite Hunsiker of Washington, DC, Melissa Hunsiker of Bethesda, MD, Mary Fritz (Jerald) of McLean, VA and Susan Howard (John) of Dedham, MA; grandfather of Sam, Melissa, Whitney, Skylar, Henry and Liza.

Funeral service was held at Calvary Episcopal Church.
