John Jermon was born on November 25, 1914, in Greenwich Connecticut to Edna Gertrude Balcom, age 36, and George H Jermon, age 37. He attended Greenwich and Rye schools and was associated with the Life Savers, Inc., before entering service. In Rye his family lived at 216 Purchase Street.
John enlisted in 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He rose to the rank of sergeant and spent 20 months in the South Pacific with the Signal Corps. The United States Army Signal Corps (USASC) is a branch of the United States Army that creates and manages communications and information systems for the command and control of combined arms forces.
Sgt. Jerman returned to the US and was stationed at Drew Field, Tampa, Fla., before his honorable discharge.
John married Helen M Drought not once but twice.
The first marriage was on August 4, 1945 with the Rev.
Alexander C. Wollschlager officiating at the in St. Mary’s Church in Greenwich. The couple would divorce in 1948 and then reconcile 7 years later.
The second marriage was on September 20, 1955, in Alexandria, Virginia and last over 25 years.
John was a career mailman working at the Greenwich Post Office. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion Drum Corps of Greenwich, where he played the fife and sang baritone.
John Jermon died on February 5, 1992, in Greenwich, Connecticut, at the age of 77. He was predecease by Helen who died in 1980.
