Jessup, Richard P.

Description

Richard Pepperell Jesup was born on March 2, 1909, in Westchester, New York, to Florence Rosamond Bucknam, age 24, and Richard Mortimer Jesup, age 30. He attended Brunswick
and Lake Placid Schools. In Rye his family lived in Loudon Woods and were members of the Presbyterian Church.

He married Jean Betty Macintyre in 1935. He then married Emily E Whitney Harrington on October 11, 1936, in Hoosick Falls, New York.

Richard enlisted July 6, 1942 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a private first class in antiaircraft.

Richard became ill fighting in Normandy following the 1944 invasion of France. He was flown home in September 1944 for treatment at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC.

He would spend the next ten years in therapy as a patient in 11 Army and Veterans Administration hospitals.

Richard Pepperell Jesup, 45, died on July 27, 1954, in Brook Hospital at the Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio Texas, where he had been a patient for four months.

At the time of his death, he was survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Jesup of Rye, NY; and friends, Mrs. George Surkey and Mrs. James Waterbury both of San Antonio.

He was buried in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery San Antonio Bexar County Texas
