Description

Roy Everette Jones was born on April 7, 1916, in Hartford, Connecticut, to Zella May Whitford, age 22, and Frank Ashton Jones, age 30. He had five sisters and two brothers and in Rye his family lived at 92 Railroad Ave.

Before the war, Roy was a golf professional at the Maplemoor Club, White Plains, in addition to working at Rye Golf Club as caddy master.

Roy enlisted in 1941 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. His initial training was at Camp Upton, NY before he was transferred to the 134th Medical Corps Fort Bragg, N. C.

The 134th Medical Group was a United States Army unit that provided medical care and evacuation during World War II. The group was reorganized from the 134th Medical Regiment in 1943. It served in all European Campaigns from Normandy until the end of the war.

After his discharge in 1945, Roy returned to his job at Maplemoor Golf Club.

He married Lois Francis Cox on June 30, 1947, in New York City, New York. They had three children during their marriage. The couple would move to Tucson AZ in the 1950’s to raise their family.

Roy Everette Jones died on June 29, 1990, in Tucson, Arizona, at the age of 74, and was buried there.
