Roy P. Kedney was born March 20 1920 in Port Chester to John Thomas and Eleanor Brennan Kedney. In Rye his family lived at 189 Purchase Street. Roy’s family consisted of his father John, his mother Eleanor, his 3 brothers, John, Charles, Kenneth, and his 2 sisters Winifred, and Agnes. Roy’s father had an 8th grade education, and worked as a chef. Roy’s mother passed away at the young age of 50, Roy was only 17 at the time.

Roy was a proud member of the Rye High School class of 1940. In high school Roy participated in driving club, boxing club, and mixed chorus. Roy was also very active in athletics, and played varsity basketball, and junior varsity football.

After high school Roy enlisted into the US navy, in August of 1941. Roy was a dedicated serviceman, and during WWII served on the
USS Polaris AF-11, the USS Philadelphia CL-41 and the USS Alaska CB-1.USS Alaska (CB-1) was the lead ship of the Alaska class of large cruisers which served with the United States Navy during the end of World War II. She served in the screen for the carriers off Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Roy dedicated almost 25 years of his life in service to the US Navy, retiring in March of 1968.

Roy lived in Mamaroneck for 25 years after his retirement. For many years he was a chef at Benny’s restaurant in Mamaroneck then at Cook’s Restaurant formerly in Larchmont. Roy was a member of Holy Trinity Church in Mamaroneck He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars David Potts Jr Post 1156 in Larchmont and the American Legion Post 90 in Mamaroneck. Roy Kedney a retired chef who lived in Port Chester and Mamaroneck died 12/3/1993 at United Hospital Medical Center in Port Chester. He was 73. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife Helen D Kedney of Mamaroneck a daughter Eleanor Kedney Schaffer of New Haven Conn, a sister Agnes Arndt of Rye and two brothers John of Port Chester and Kenneth of Rye. A son Peter Roy Kedney died earlier.
