John Peter Kelly was born on February 27, 1925, in Port Chester, New York, to Helen M Wilson and Oliver Jeremiah Kelley. John had three sisters Mary Ann, Eleanor and Geraldine and in Rye his family lived at 327 Rye Beach Ave.
John was a Rye High School Graduate, Class of 1943. In high school he enjoyed many activities in including football, track and serving on the student council.
John was a graduate of the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N. Y., and attended University of Georgia. He served in the U. S. Navy and as a lieutenant commander in the Naval Reserve and served from 1948 to 1953. His Reserve Service Number was 274687.
John was on the engineering staff of the New York division of the Factory Mutual Association.. He was a member of the Privateers, a traveling men’s field hockey team, was a volunteer at Pequot Library. He married Janice Gayle on February 8, 1964, in Junction City, Oregon.
John served as a Volunteer coach for the Greens Farms Academy field hockey team. He then went on to be a volunteer coach for the Staples High School field hockey team. He was a resident of Westport, CT for 42 years.
John “Jack” P. Kelly, 83, of Westport, passed away October 20, 2008 at Norwalk Hospital.
At the time of his death, survivors in addition to his wife Janice of 44 years included two sons, Timothy R. Kelly and his wife Jean of Lexington MA; Matthew Kelly of Westport, CT; one daughter Mary K. O’Connor and her husband Timothy of Easton, CT; one sister Maryann Alexander of Cleveland OH; five grandchildren Patrick and Megan O’Connor of Easton, CT and Bradley, Andrew and Elizabeth Kelly of Lexington, MA. Mr. Kelly was pre deceased by two sisters, Eleanor K. Schalau and Geraldine Phy.
