Donald K. Lister

Donald K. Lister was born April 4, 1913, in Brooklyn. to Frederick Kaye and Helen deMena Lister. When he was 11, his family moved to Westchester and lived in Rye and Mamaroneck. In Rye his family lived at 11 Anchor Dr..

Donald graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in Exeter. -N.H., in 1930 and remained active in fund-raisers and other activities of the school. He had become more involved in the school’s activities since his retirement. He graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

During World War II, Donald served with the U.S. Navy on a mine layer in the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. He was a Navigation officer on the USS Monadnock.(See Muster Rolls). The USS Monadnock (CM-9) was a Oglala-class minelayer that served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. She participated in the North Africa landings and major Pacific theater campaigns, including the Leyte landings and the Battle of Okinawa.

Donald began a career in banking in 1931 with the Corn Exchange Bank Trust Co., which was later bought by Chemical Bank. He continued to work in the Manhattan main office until 1978, when he retired. In his later years with the bank, he had been in charge of Chemical’s efforts to increase the number of minority employees.

Donald Kaye Lister of Mamaroneck, a former vice president of Chemical Bank, died of cardiac arrest Thursday October 18, 1990 at the Westchester Country Club in Harrison. He was 77.

At the time of his death, he was survived by two brothers, Gordon K. Lister of Green Valley, Ariz., and Frederick K. Lister of Rye Brook.
