Douglas Johnston Miller was born on December 6, 1913, in Rye, New York, to Isabel Pond Cornwall, age 24, and Douglas Johnston Miller, age 26. He was raised and educated in Port Chester NY and a graduate of Dartmouth.

Douglas married Catherine Irene McKay September 22, 1938 the Church of Our Lady of Mercy in Port Chester. The couple would move to Rye and have two children together. In Rye the family lived at Brookside Apartments.

Douglas enlisted May 4, 1942 and served as an officer in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Douglas J. Miller, Jr. , of Brookside Apartment, has received his ensigns commission in the U. S. Naval Reserve. He will report for duty at the Procurement Division at 33 Pine Street, on Monday. Ensign Miller is a graduate of Dartmouth. He is married and has a small son, Douglas, 3d.

Douglas served in the Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged October 27, 1945.

By 1950 Douglas and his family had moved to Dallas, TX and he was working as a sales manager for a bearing company. In the 1960’s the family moved to Tampa, FL. His wife Catherine died in 1967 and Douglas then would marry Ruth Miriam Stephenson.

Douglas worked and retired from the Lykes Packing Co. He was a member of the Dartmouth College Alumni Association and he attended St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Tampa.

Douglas Johnston Miller died on September 5, 1982, in Brevard, North Carolina, at the age of 68, and was buried in his hometown.

At the time of his death, he was survived by wife, Ruth Stevenson; two sons, Douglas Johnston III of Texas and Lawrence W.
of St. Petersburg, one step-daughter, Cynthia Risdan of Vermont, and two brothers, Cornwall of Connecticut, Lawrence of Massachusetts.
